As financial recruiters, we often hear an initial objection from advisors saying they are happy where they are. And that’s good, because a positive attitude about your firm leads to increased sales…but it doesn’t end here. There’s more to the equation.

So, what other traits are necessary to ensure success? Now don’t laugh – they’re “entrenched” in you; your individual personal traits. Here’s what I’ve found when dealing with a really successful financial advisor.

They are

  • Knowledgeable: they’ve taken the efforts at self improvement by attending sales seminars and learning about new products; they read books and stay current on industry and national issues.
  • Committed: they’ll do whatever it takes to be successful, including “dressing the part” by simply wearing a suit to the office!
  • Invested; in their career and themselves, and it has paid off. Earmark money for building your career and your success.
  • Dependable: they’re accessible when you need them and they will get back to you when they say they will.

Not surprisingly, these traits are attributed to all successful people and you might think they sound a bit simplistic. Not so…it takes a lot of tenacity to stick to them – try it.
